Walk-obedience training

Today we took our every evening long walk (it is about 7-10 km long), but this time it included more obedience training then usual.

Well we have started our obedience training again slowly but consistently and mostly we train during our walks. But sometimes as well in our home, in the garden.

In our walks we mostly train now heeling (dog walking just beside me). Today I trained it by making it playful. Firstly I played with Aapo and then tried to do heeling with him. Then I tested him, by letting him guess and react when will I stop, when will I speed or slow down. He truly enjoyd the game. It wasn't a borred walk like - ok lets heel for a while to get the treat, then I'll sniff and do something else again... No, the game made it fun for him. He wanted to heel and guess when will I stop or when will I speed. It was fun. I think this tactic really works for him. And we keep it going as that - playful and the way he needs to think with me and to be alert.

Also today, cause the weather was really nice, we met a lot of people during our walk. This gave an opportunity to use it in our training. While the people passed us I did the contact training with Aapo. He wanted to work, not to go and say hello to everyone. He was just sitting next to me or heeling and watching my eyes patiently..

And as always at the end of the walk we played some frisbee. Then he is really warmed up and guick. He enjoys catching the frisbees. Few days ago I bought Aapo also a new plaything. It is something what Aapo can pull and tweak. He really likes this plaything. So after the frisbee training we did some pulling with that plaything - and Aapo went crazzy, in a good way :))

Aapo at the sandpit, drinking some water after hard training.

Today's walk was really positive and I truly enjoyd it. Aapo was so happy, contactive and active too ;) and it was seen from his behaviour. Really good day to train obedience. The walk was really long as well mentaly developing and Aapo got nicely tired from it ;) and again he is sleeping like a baby... dreaming his dreams..
